Alexander McKenzie

Alexander McKenzie made his debut in 2005 at the age of 16 with an orchestra in Sydney as the soloist in Grieg’s piano concerto. Since then he has appeared as soloist with the Southern Jutland Symphony Orchestra, the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra and has done many concerts in Copenhagen, New York State and at many venues in Denmark, including Tivoli Concert Hall, Danmarks Radio’s studio 2 and the concert hall of The Royal Danish Academy of Music. Alexander is also a chamber player and a member of the Vitruvi piano trio. He has also taken part in theatre performances.

Biography

Alexander McKenzie was born in Copenhagen in 1988, and after growing up in Australia he moved back to Denmark in 2007 to study piano under Amalie Malling at The Royal Danish Academy of Music. He started to have piano teaching at the age of five and performed in public concerts in Sydney from the age of ten. Since then, Alexander has won many prizes in competitions and received teaching from Tim Frederiksen, Nikolaj Znaider, Leif Ove Andsnes, The Tokyo Quartet, Lilia Schulz-Bayrova, Daniel Vaiman – and most recently from Netanel Draiblate and Sara Sant’Ambrogio in New York.

Scholarship from the Léonie Sonning Music Foundation

The scholarship is to be used for studies in New York from autumn 2012 – at the Manhattan School or Music and/or the Juilliard School of Music.
